they come with the job

They are in every city and everyone in EMS knows their name...and all of their information....they are the patients that everyone hates, but secretly loves to take to the hospital...they are the ones who call 911 at least 1 to 5 times a day...they are the homeless, the psychotic, the little old lady/man, they are the lonely, the abandoned, the drunk they are the frequent flyers....

Working part time and jumping from city to city, depending on what shift I decide to pick up, I know that there is that chance that I will run on one of these so called frequent flyers...may it be the lady with Tourette syndrome  who punched me in the face one day, the lonely guy who calls changing his mind if its going to be chest pain or low blood sugar that day, the drunk who doesn't take care of himself but will sing to you all the way to the hospital just so he can get a sandwich, or the lady who keeps running away from her psych facility to go to McDonald's for her cheeseburger then need a ride back...
They come with the job...as an added bonus...we all have our stories...

here is something i found online that tells it like it is
1. Skin sign tells all.
2. Truly sick people don't complain.
3. Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round; any variation on this is a bad thing.
4. The more equipment you see on an EMT's belt, the newer they are.
5. If you drop the baby, pick it up.
6. When dealing with patients/supervisors/citizens, if it felt good saying it, it was the wrong thing to say.
7. All bleeding stops...eventually.
8. All people will eventually die, no matter what you do.
9. If the child is quiet, be scared.
10. Always follow the rules, but be wise enough to forget them sometimes.
11. If someone dies by chemical hazards/electrical shock/other on-scene danger, it should be the patient, not you.
12. There will be problems.
13. You can't cure stupid.
14. Somethings only a good autopsy will cure.
15. If it's wet and sticky, and not yours, LEAVE IT ALONE!
16. Heaven protects fools and drunks.
17. The severity of the injury is directly proportional to the difficulty in accessing, as well as the weight, of the patient.
18. Paramedics save lives, but it's EMT skills that save Paramedics.
19. If a patient vomits, be sure to aim it at the bystanders that wouldn't back up.
20. If you don't have it, don't give up. Improvise, Adapt, Overcome, then call for a 2nd unit.
21. If there are no drunks at an MVA after midnight, keep looking, someone is missing.
22. If it's stupid but it works, then it ain't stupid.
23. The important things are always simple, and the simple things are always hard.
24. When it comes to needles, 'tis better to give than to receive.
25. Most of your patients are healthier than you.
26. The address is never clearly marked.
27. Asystole is a very stable rhythm.

saturday night

Saturday night was an interesting crazy time...I had invited a few close friends over for some drinks...there was probably about 20 people who showed up. towards the end of the night something bad happened...one of the girls became unresponsive and we had to call 911. come to find out she had been taking some medication that should not have been mixed with alcohol.

When the fire department and AMR showed up they were extremely rude to us. When I asked to ride along they said no, i asked why not, according to them it was their policy. I got into it with one of the firemen on scene. If i couldn't go then let one of the other EMTs on scene ride a long...they denied that as well

When we got to the hospital they wouldn't let us in the back because the medics on scene told the nurses not to let me in...they painted this picture of me that was completely untrue...security came out to talk to us. it was embarrassing

I have never felt so disrespected. A little bit of professional courtesy would have been amazing...instead we get pushed out of the way and yelled at.

i did call and complain to AMR but it went no where...

this is straight copy and paste from the Mayo Clinic for your information on why you shouldn't mix alcohol and anti-depressants

"Question

Antidepressants and alcohol: What is the concern?

Why is it bad to mix antidepressants and alcohol? What happens? If I take antidepressants, does this mean I can never have an alcoholic drink?

Answer

from Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, M.D.

It's generally best to avoid combining antidepressants and alcohol for several reasons. In some cases it can be dangerous. Before combining antidepressants and alcohol, always talk to your doctor first about whether it's safe for you.
A few things might happen if you mix antidepressants and alcohol:
  • You may feel more depressed. Alcohol can worsen depression symptoms, so by drinking it, you could counteract effects of your medication and lessen its benefit.
  • You may become more intoxicated than usual. Some antidepressants may cause you to feel more intoxicated than normal when combined with alcohol, which can impair your judgment and ability to drive or do other tasks that require focus and attention.
  • The side effects from your medication may worsen. Some antidepressants cause drowsiness, and so does alcohol. Mixing the two could make you sleepy, which is dangerous in situations where you need to be alert.
  • Deadly reactions can occur with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Examples of MAOIs include isocarboxazid (Marplan) phenelzine (Nardil) and tranylcypromine (Parnate). When combined with certain types of beverages and foods, these antidepressants can cause a dangerous spike in blood pressure, leading to a stroke. If you take an MAOI, be sure you know what's safe to eat and drink, and which alcoholic beverages can cause a reaction.
Don't stop taking an antidepressant or other medication just so that you can drink. Most antidepressants require taking a consistent, daily dose to maintain a constant level in your system and work as intended. Stopping and starting your medications can make your depression worse.
While it's generally best not to drink at all if you're depressed, ask your doctor. It may be OK to have an occasional drink depending on your particular situation. Tell your doctor about any other health conditions you might have and about any other medications you take. A number of medications can cause problems when consumed with alcohol. I got this from one of my fans...

So on Sunday morning I get an email from my manager, he sent me an email that says "support your local porn start." Right then I knew he was referring to Mandy sweet my big booty white milf that I have become addicted to. Not wasting any time I clicked on the URL link and I hit the play tab, right in front of my wife and two years old son (I know I know), I immediately started watching the video with joy. My wife surprise to see me watching porn in front of her says, "WTF Louis you are watching porn in front of me and your son?" I replied to her "Shut up woman, and go away that I am watching my fav porn start get banged." I could not stop watching the video as I was excited and jealous at the same time, but nevertheless it was an enjoyable video that I must had seen multiple times at home at work, on my cell device, and in my mind while a sleep, and maybe in the shower. I can't wait to see Mandy new videos, I hope next time she is with a Latino ;-)

I guess im an apple tree

The Druids Horoscope. The Druids Calendar. Gallic Horoscope

Apple tree

(22nd December - 1st January, 25th June - 4th July)

She rarely may be high, she gladdens your eyes, she has much of attractiveness, she's nicely constituted, has a lot of charm and warmth. She instils a thoughts about love, even not thinking of it by herself (which occurs rarely indeed).
Apple tree - is very sentimental, sensitive. Love is interesting for her as in theory so as in practice of course. Often she decides to marry somebody not having a great feelings to a partner (apple is a very versatile tree), but it does not mean a final refusal of love and feelings.
If she accidentally meets a partner suitable to her taste and spirit, then their marriage will be a felicity. Apple tree is always loyal in love (as in free love, so as in conjugal one, and even in after-conjugal) up to a declining years.
She is unselfish, improvident, easy to be deceived. She would give to anybody her own shirt, share a last piece of bread. However, Apple tree is not a "goose". Not thinking of tomorrow, she lives today, sometimes making a debt and forgetting about it, which is usual for her. She is a philosopher, full of fantasies, glad to be living and not wishing to surprise or convince anybody.
However, do not take her as a thoughtless creature. Being intelligent, thoughtful and logical, Apple tree has a penchant to science. She reads everything related to the area she is interested in. A volume of her knowledge is surprisingly big, but she does not try to amaze anybody, she simply reads everything to satisfy her curiosity. Scientific theories are interesting for her for so much as a good cooking does too. She prefers the pleasures of this world to a bliss in other world.
She likes a diversity in emotional area. Monotonous happiness with no defect blows boredom on her. It needs to be known, that this spontaneous girl or nice boy likes to complicate the life from time to time.
Traits of those who were born under the sign of Apple tree: emotionality, warmth, intellect, inclination to thoughts, logic, analytical mind.
These people were born under the sign of Apple tree: Rubens, Henry VII, Rousseau, George Sand.

banana pants

Banana Pants
During my years working close by with the fire department I have come to realize that there are 2 types of firemen…Real Firemen, and Banana Pants
Real Firemen are those that love the job, who show respect to those they work along side of, who take care and treat the patients they respond to the best of their ability, they treat the patient not the policy. They are humble about themselves, and are willing to risk their lives for yours.
The other type of firemen I call banana pants, they look like real firemen, get paid the same amount as real firemen, but when you look underneath it all they are not real fireman.
Banana pants are the type of firemen/medic who go on a medical call and hand it off to the ambulance personnel without doing a proper assessment. They have no respect for the people they are suppose to be helping, they think it is a burden to run any calls other than a “structure fire.” They are the guys who belittle a brand new EMT for not doing his/her job correctly instead of teaching them how to do things proper, they are the firemen who constantly use the uniform to pick up on women sleep with them once and never call again. These are men who sleep with women and write the girls name and number on the wall of the men’s bathroom at the station.
Examples:
banana pants attempt to ship a patient BLS who had an arterial bleed that was uncontrolled, because they had a structure fire the patient almost died…he had to have surgery…

Banana pants shipped a patient BLS who had a massive GI bleed, when asked what do I tell the nurse why you didn’t want to follow up they told me it because it wasn’t in their policy to follow up on those types of calls. When the patient was seen at the hospital I explained what the banana pants told me to say to the nurse…lets just say those banana pants didn’t talk to me for a month because they thought I went behind their back and through them under the bus…the patient died 3 days later

Banana pants asked me in the back of my ambulance if I had any new movies coming out….which would have been fine, but it was in front of a 16 year old female patient…

Banana pants run a call on a diabetic patient who’s blood sugar was in the 40s they start an IV push D50 bring the sugar to 80, but ship it with BLS ambulance personnel…patients blood sugar dropped to 50 by the time they got to the hospital.

Banana pants don’t do a 12 lead on a 40 year old female with abdominal pain, they ship the patient BLS when we got to the hospital the patient was having an MI…

I am at a bar and I can over hear the conversation next to me. A guy trying to pick up on a girl…she’s not interested until he says what he does for a living…"but Im a firemean"

If you are going to take a job as a Fireman, it comes with great responsibility, don’t abuse the power, medical calls are part of that job. If you are going to be a paramedic don’t wear the banana pants…be a real fireman

If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out? ~John Godfrey Saxe
What you call a hero, I call just doing my job. ~Author Unknown

So as you look at the firefighter with his rake, hose or axe,
His beet red face or ice covered mustache,
You should know why he goes through that smoky front door,
And is forced to crawl like a baby down on the floor.
He does it to save both lives and property,
All that is precious to you and to me.
So take a good look at this modern warrior who serves his call proud and true,
And know that he would die just to save me and you.
~Robert J. Athans
